Sebastian Geared Head Lathes
The
Sebastian Geared Head Lathe came in 2 similar styles a Series A or
13” and Series B or 15”. Both the 2 Lathes could come with 3
different Bed Length’s 5’, 6’, or 8’ thus also weights
ranging from 2295 2705 lbs for the “A” Series & 2370 –
2810 for the “B” Series

Sebastian Headstock
The
Headstock for the time was a modern or (square) in design, and
engineered to last a very long time. All the gears ran in an oil
bath with “splash” lubrication. The Spindle is “Splined”
and came with “Zero Precision” tapered roller bearings.
Standard through hole is 1 3/8”.
Both models came with the L00 5 MT. The Lathe’s also came
Standard with a 2 Speed Motor, 2 h.p. or 3 h.p. 8 Speeds produced
in High Range assortment from 50 – 1250, and the Low Range
assortment 35 – 910

Sebastian Gearbox
The
Gear Box is a large devise, giving 60 unique Threads and Pitches,
incorporated into the Box is a Lead Screw Reversing Lever. The
Lead Screw itself is mounted in adjustable tapered roller bearings

Double Walled Apron
The
Sebastian used a Double Walled Apron, One-piece design. Gears run
in an “Oil Bath” and the Apron also has the “One Shot”
Lubrication System

Tailstock
The
Tailstock on the Sebastian is durable. Built with a
“Cam-action” for rapid locking and release. It is a 3 MT and
has 4 ½” travel. Set over is ¾”

Oil gage
The
oil gage measures the oil in the Head Sock and Apron for a
constant check of oil levels by the indicator window. Sorry about
the bad picture this was scanned at 9600 dpi & it still came
out bad. the actual image that this came from is ¼” X ¼”
