Sheldon 3R Turret Lathe

The Sheldon 3R Turret Lathe is very well built, and was designed for a variety of production Machining. The 3R has all the power and turning capacity to meet the needs of most “Production Shops”, built with a 5 h.p.  2 Speed Motor.

(a) Spindle speeds in Direct Drive High Range 300 – 1250. Low Range 150 – 625.

(b) Back Gear Drive High Range 45 – 200. Low Range 22 – 100

Swing over bed is 15.375” and quite heavy for its size. About 3200 lbs

 

 

Headstock

The headstock is fully enclosed while gears run in oil. It has a Unique design that eliminates spindle deflection.

Pushbutton Controls

The Control Panel has the selection for the 2 speed instant reversing, On & Off for the Power Feeds on the Turret pictured below).

Power Feed Box

The Power Feed Box is also fully enclosed & runs in oil. It has 80 different Feeds available, ½, Equal or Double Longitudinal Feeds in the Gear Box

The Sheldon ZM 13" Series

Another of Sheldon's Turret Lathes are the 13” Model's, ZM Series. The ZM is quite a bit different than the 3R, but was quite capable of running several types of jobs, and to many shops, a lot more economical. It came Standard with the Lever Crosslide, Lever Collet Closer, Tachometer, Chip pan and Turret. It did not come with the 2 h.p. 220/440 3-phase Motor. The Drive is 2 Speed, 200 – 2000 on high and 40 – 300 in low. Shipping Weight 1400 lbs. The ZM came in 2 other Models as well. The ZEM, & The ZUM. The ZEM was the same as above accept the drive is a 16 Speed 50 – 1600 rpm’s and it does not have the Tachometer. Shipping Weight 1200. The ZUM came with the U – Type Drive which is an external Lever Shift, and provided 8 Speeds from 50 – 1200. Shipping Weight 1235. This Lathe also does not have the Tachometer, and neither of the 2 came standard with the 2 h.p. 220/440 3-phase Motor.
