Rockwell 11" Metal Lathes came obtainable with flame hardened bed ways that guarantee longer wearing characteristics and provided a safeguard against denting and marking.

The ways were flame hardened, like most in their time, then precision ground with extraordinary, accuracy, & way-grinding equipment. Flame hardening gave surety for continued original exactness of the bed ways, even under the gruel of repetitive production operations.
