The BOSS 7 was truly revolutionary for the
Bridgeport CNC line up. This machine has the Rigid Milling Head,
with an inverted 3 hp motor AC Induction Motor 500 - 5000 RPM
& 120 - 1080 RPM in back gears. The Tool Changer boast's a 24
station Carrousel. The tooling is placed in the Spindle by a
mechanical driving arm. The Tool Changer Arm is air hydraulic
which places the #35 MNT Toolholders
This machine was going to be the top of the
line & with its departure into the industry it was going to
transfigure the Bridgeport CNC division. It turned out to be the
biggest blunder that the engineers at Bridgeport made. With the
sale of the first 135 machines 130 were returned for malfunctions,
tool changer dropping tool holders, stripping gears, etc.
Bridgeport never contacted the other 5 owners to see if they were
happy or not.
The
machine under went a complete makeover, only to find that it
needed another complete makeover & yet another complete
makeover until the machine was scrapped. But don’t worry
Bridgeport continued selling them all the time their engineers
were trying to figure out a way to make it run right.
If
you are thinking of purchasing one of these machines...DON'T,
unless you plan on having a 3500 lbs paper weight. You are going
to have major problems. Parts are unavailable. I have people
asking about putting a retro fit on one of these. The BOSS 7.2
software is for the most part stable. It is the mechanical end of
the spectrum where the problems lie. If King Solomon where alive
today he would tell you " My son depart not from my saying
have nothing to do with the BOSS 7. Run from her as thou wouldst a
swarm of bees. Let foolish thought be not yours. Let your gladness
be in the Interact
